To help you prepare for the release of this new hot hatch, Andy Mohr Volkswagen of Avon has compiled the following 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI preview. We want to get you up to speed before this car arrives in a showroom near you.
For drivers in and around Avon, Indianapolis or Plainfield, IN, we’ll give you a closer look at what this car may have in store for you.
Model Overview: 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI
In 2018, there will be some small yet important exterior changes that seasoned Volkswagen fans will be able to pick out immediately: new LED head- and taillamps, daytime running lights and an aggressive-styled front bumper. It all adds up to a more sophisticated, fine-tuned look.
Under the hood, you can expect an upgraded engine that’ll boost predicted horsepower from 210 to more than 220, and even higher with the performance package. That’s enough power to help you climb hills and accelerate with ease.
With power steering, sport suspension, and a turbocharged 2.0L engine, the 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI driving dynamics should be very similar to last year’s model in terms of grip and driver control.

Anticipated Interior Technology
The 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI will offer a modern infotainment system with a new Active Info Display panel, seamlessly integrated into the dashboard for a polished look.
The current model’s infotainment system has convenient features like app-connect, letting you select your compatible, connected smartphone’s apps right from the screen. The system also offers Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, so you can control your iPhone or Android device from the display screen.
You can also access a performance monitor to gauge vehicle performance functions like oil temperature and boost pressure. Taken together, these features have become a staple of the Volkswagen hot hatchback, and there’s no reason to think they won’t grace the 2018 model, as well.
Golf GTI Safety Features
The 2017 Volkswagen Golf GTI was an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK+ and has a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration—and the 2018 model will likely continue the Volkswagen tradition of safety excellence.
Some of the features you can expect to see carry over to the new model include the intelligence crash response system, which will automatically turn off the fuel, unlock the doors and activate hazard lights in the event of an accident that deploys the airbags; it moves quickly in case you’re not able to.
In addition, tire pressure monitoring will alert you when you lose tire pressure and need to add more air, so you don’t have to make that call yourself.
