2018 VW Golf Trim Levels
The Volkswagen Golf has long been a favorite compact among drivers in Avon, Indianapolis, and Plainfield looking for an exciting drive. But which one of the 2018 VW Golf trim levels is right for you? Andy Mohr Volkswagen takes a look at each of them for you in this review.
VW Golf S
The base trim of this classic Volkswagen is the 2018 VW Golf S. It’s powered by a 1.8L 4-cylinder TSI® turbocharged engine that gets up to 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
The standard transmission is a 5-speed manual, but there’s also an available 6-speed automatic with Tiptronic® and Sport mode that lets you get up to 199 lb-ft of torque. The Tiptronic® feature gives you the freedom to manually control the gear shifting without a clutch.
The exterior design gives you great visibility with standard halogen headlights and LED daytime running lights and tail lights. Power-operated heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals have you covered along the sides, while rain-sensing windshield wipers can help you see clearer during storms.
When you take a seat inside you’ll find cloth seating surfaces over 6-way partial power-adjustable front seats, which include adjustable lumbar support. There’s convenient features around you like four cupholders and an adjustable front center armrest.
To help you carry lots of cargo, this convenient compact features 60/40-split folding rear seats with a center armrest and pass-through, plus an adjustable cargo floor.
In the driver’s seat you’ll get a sporty feel from the leather-wrapped gearshift knob and leather-wrapped sport steering wheel with height adjustable telescopic steering column.
There’s also lots of information available with your multi-function trip computer and the dashboard mounted infotainment system. The 6.5-inch Composition Color touchscreen is home to Volkswagen Car-Net® App-Connect system. It’s Bluetooth® compatible for audio streaming and features apps like Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™, and MirrorLink®.
The dashboard screen is also your window to what’s behind you. When you shift into reverse it’ll show you a live picture from your Rear View Camera System.
VW Golf SE
The second trim is the 2018 Volkswagen Golf SE. It runs on the same engine and transmission, but has lots of added technology for comfort and convenience.
It lets you get on the road quicker with keyless access and a push-button start. During your drive, you can let more light in on those summer days with a power tilting/sliding panoramic sunroof. When winter rolls around you’ll be better prepared to beat the cold with heated windshield washer nozzles.
The interior now features V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces and heated front seats. Up front, the infotainment system gets upgraded to an 8-inch Composition Media touchscreen and adds SiriusXM® Satellite Radio.
Added technology helps keep you safe, too. A bundle of driver assistance features now come standard to help give you more awareness of what’s around you. These include:
- Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking
- Pedestrian Monitoring
- Blind Spot Monitor
- Rear Traffic Alert
You can also take the technology of this trim with you. A subscription to Volkswagen Car-Net® Security & Service comes standard. It can help you locate your car from your smartphone.
