Jetta vs Focus: Interior Spaciousness Jetta ebook

Compact cars may look small on the outside, but headroom in the VW Jetta and Ford Focus shows that’s not always the case on the inside. Drivers and front passengers in both cars will find more than 38 inches of headroom, while riders in the rear get generous figures in the 37- and 38-inch range.

Legroom in the front row is also generous. Jetta and Focus front passengers will find more than 41 inches of legroom, perfect for stretching out and avoiding cramped legs on long drives. The Volkswagen Jetta has a major advantage in the rear, though, with 38.1 inches of legroom compared to the Focus’ 33.2 inches.

That’s almost a 5-inch difference. It’s the difference between a backseat that fits adults comfortably, and one suited for kids only.

Performance Specs

Many drivers turn to compact cars for their efficiency, and in that respect, the Jetta and Focus deliver. The Focus gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 25 city/34 highway MPG in its base trim—a strong showing. The base Jetta does even better with an EPA-estimated 28 city/40 highway MPG, adding up to much less time spent at the pump.1

The base trims run on I-4 engines (the Jetta is turbocharged) that deliver similar horsepower, but there’s a significant gap in terms of torque. The Focus offers a respectable 146 lb-ft of torque, but the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta goes above and beyond with 184 lb-ft. If you want rapid acceleration when you pull away from the stoplight, the Jetta will give you that boost.

Cargo Capacities  VW Jetta interior

The VW Jetta and Ford Focus have versatile storage options from clever cabin caches like the bin in the center console and unobtrusive door pockets. In both cars, 60/40 split-folding rear seats let you store longer items in the trunk and customize your ideal people-to-cargo ratio.

Look at the trunks themselves, though, and you’ll find a bit more room in the Jetta. It has 15.7 cubic feet of cargo volume, which is enough to fit the week’s groceries, your golf clubs, or even luggage for your next trip. The trunk in the Focus sedan measures just 13.2 cubic feet, giving you less space for storage.

VW Jetta vs Ford Focus: And the Winner is…

A VW Jetta vs. Ford Focus car comparison is tricky—these two compact cars measure up well against each other. Drivers looking for exceptional efficiency, roomy backseats, and a cavernous trunk may just feel at home in the VW Jetta.
