Does the VW Passat or Fusion Have Better Gas Mileage?

VW Passat Fuel Economy When merging onto the highway from an entrance ramp or when trying to pass slower traffic, the power of your vehicle matters. In the Volkswagen Passat, you’ll have the standard 2.0L Turbo engine to rely upon for these situations, while the Fusion presents a 2.5L iVCT engine. The VW Passat offers the extra pep that comes with the Turbo engine, while the Fusion does not.

You can see just how much more responsive the VW Passat is in how much torque it has to offer. With the VW Passat, you’ll earn up to 206 lb-ft of torque; however, in the Ford Fusion, you’ll only get a standard 175 lb-ft of torque to work with. That extra torque will really give you the added acceleration you need to take on the open road

As you’re running your kids back and forth to school or if you’re looking forward to a lengthy commute, gas mileage is important. The Volkswagen Passat gives drivers an EPA-estimated 23 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway.1 The Fusion gets an EPA-estimated 21 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway, which means you’ll be stopping for gas a bit more in the Fusion.

VW Passat vs Fusion: Space

2020 VW Passat Interior

When you spend a lot of time in your vehicle, you rely on a specific amount of space in the front seats. You want to be able to stretch your legs, so they don’t cramp up during long drives. Both the VW Passat and the Ford Fusion are fairly evenly matched for space in the front seats and offer a comfortable ride.

However, when you’re the car of choice for family road trips, you also need to think about the rear row and how much space is available to your passengers. The Ford Fusion gives them 37.8 inches of headroom—as does the VW Passat—but they differ when it comes to legroom. The VW Passat allows your rear passengers to stretch out with 39.1 inches of legroom, while the Fusion has only 38.3 inches.

The Little Extras

VW Passat Headlights For many of us, our cars are our domains and we want them to match up to the level of comfort and safety we feel at home. In terms of safety, both the VW Passat and the Ford Fusion lend to your feeling of safety with the addition of an available of driver-assist features.

The VW Passat also comes with a standard Coming/Leaving Home feature, which is designed to offer you greater visibility when leaving your vehicle at night. With this, your car will keep the lights on a bit longer to light the way to your front door, so you don’t stumble in the dark. You won’t find a feature like this in the Ford Fusion.

Advanced Seating Features

When you’re looking to relax on your way to work, you’ll want to have an ergonomic seat to help you really settle in. The VW Passat and Ford Fusion treat us to truly comfortable interiors with seats that can be adjusted to just the right position.

However, when you want more out of your driver’s seat, the VW Passat is here with its available powered driver’s seat with memory. This smart feature lets you program different positions for your driver’s seat, so you can reset it to just the right position for you. You’ll love having this feature if you sometimes have other people driving your car.
